Jaurena Ruf Project – TANGO TALES
They’ve known each other for 13 years, they’ve played with the Tango Five ensemble at prestigious tango festivals in Montevideo and Buenos Aires, they’ve given concerts in New York, Tiflis, Vienna and Berlin, and they’ve recorded four tango-infused albums with Tango Five. The repertoire of the Jaurena Ruf Project is a mélange of tango, klezmer, jazz and classical music –with improvisation as the unifying element.
Raul Jaurena and Bernd Ruf are resuming their much-praised duo tour: Tango Tales – Para Vos Y Para Mí. They will be performing inspirational tango chamber music at German and Swiss venues from 30 August to 18 September 2011. During the tour these exceptional musicians will be calling on their audiences to help them celebrate the 70th birthday of Raul Jaurena – 70 years of tango.

Germán Prentki (Cello) in Montevideo/Uruguay geboren, fühlt sich durch seine Heimatstadt mit dem Tango eng verbunden. Seit Jahren widmet er sich neben der Klassischen Musik diesem faszinierenden Tanz und ist mit dem Project "Tango de Concierto" sehr erfolgreich unterwegs. Zusammen mit Raul Jaurena (Montevideo u. New York) Preisträger des Latin-Grammys 2008 in der Kategorie Tango , einem der führenden Bandoneonisten der Gegenwart und seit dem Jahr 2000 Mitglied des Giora Feidman-Quartetts, kreiert Germán Prentki durch die Besetzung Cello und Bandoneon einen neuen Tango- Klang, der den Zuhörern ein spannendes und aufregendes Konzerterlebnis garantiert.

Raúl Jaurena Trio
A love of Argentine tango has connected Raúl Jaurena (bandoneon), Bobbi Fischer (piano) and Veit Hübner (bass) for a long time. The story of the connection between these three virtuosi on melodeon, piano and double bass respectively is fascinating. In 1997 Veit Hübner went to a concert in New York given by the Uruguayan-born bandoneon player and was captivated by the breath-taking skill with which he played. He immediately invited Jaurena to record with his German quartet, "Tango Five". And the maestro accepted straightaway.
Jaurena made three CDs with Tango Five, including one on which they were accompanied by the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. Several tours followed throughout Germany as well as to the tango festivals of Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
Bobbi Fischer and Veit Hübner have since continued their musical dialogue with the renowned bandoneon player. In 2007, the very same year in which Jaurena was awarded a Grammy for best tango album, the trio gave the first of their critically-acclaimed concerts in Germany.
Musically, the Raúl Jaurena Trio harks back to models of traditional tango, which are used to underpin each ensemble member's solo interpretation. Tango rhythms, therefore, play a fundamental role in the milongas, candombes, tangos and waltzes. Jaurena, who as a young musician played with Astor Piazzolla, provides the traditional tango feel. Fischer and Hübner, their musical roots lying in jazz, provide a genre-crossing impulse that sympathetically suspends the classic separation between the styles. The result is a harmonious fusion of melancholy with a dynamic joie de vivre.
